Webinar “Fires in Alternatively Powered Vehicles onboard Ships” within the framework of the LASH FIRE PROJECT

The training Jovellanos Centre of the Spanish Maritime Rescue and Safety Agency leads WP 6 (Effective Manual Operations) with the main goal of implementing more effective fire managing operations in all stages of a fire, including risk-based screening and management of cargo, more efficient fire patrols and first responders. This WP is part of the Lash Fire Project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement nº 814975 LASH FIRE consists of 27 research and industry partners from 13 EU member states.

The first LASH FIRE public “Fires in Alternatively Powered Vehicles onboard Ships” webinar organised by Interferry and Sea Europe took place on 14 October 2020 with more than 240 participants. 

Moderated and introduced by LASH FIRE project coordinator, Franz Evegren, RISE, the webinar included two more presentations by LASH FIRE partners: Martin Carlsson, STENA presented a study of safety aspects of carriage and charging of electric vehicles on ro-pax vessels while Robert Rylander, also from RISE presented charging of electrical vehicles onboard ships.

Two guest contributions were given by Dr. Dana Meißner, the German Institute for Ship’s Safety and Safety Technology (ISV) who presented ALBERO – a project by the German government coordinated by ISV with a safe integration of powered vehicles into ferry traffic as main objective.

Representing European Maritime Safety Agency, Sifis Papageorgio, presented the regulator’s views and how to best address the APV at the IMO.
