Collective

The course has been designed for Captains, Chief Engineers and Officers on any ship that wants to sail under the British flag or that requires this certification to embark.

Goals

Marlins is a world level registered trademark of the company Seatec UK Limited. It was originally established in 1994 with a view to creating a standard in English Language learning for crews around the world.

Since then, it has become a certificate that is acknowledged by many shipping companies.

The written Marlins Test and the Marlins Test of Spoken English (TOSE) are methods recognized by the British MCA (Maritime Coastguard Agency) to assess competence in the English language for the purpose of obtaining the CEC (certificate of equivalence competency).

Consequently, it is highly valued in the maritime industry around the world. The Marlins Test is actually the only requirement made by many shipping companies and crewing companies regarding fluency in English.

The Jovellanos Centre has been certified by Marlins to offer this test.

Methodology

This is a test that must be performed in a classroom using specific software that depends directly on Marlins. You must achieve a certain number of correct answers, depending on the job you want to obtain.

For more information on the procedures for obtaining the Certificate of Equivalence, please see www.mcga.gov.uk

Duration

The test lasts approximately 1 hour.
