Collective

Personnel working in the offshore oil and gas industry who will be supplied with a compressed air emergency breathing system (CA-EBS) during offshore helicopter travel.
Entry requirements:

  • Possess a valid and current offshore medical certificate or possess an employing company-approved medical certificate or medical fitness to work at sea or medical fitness for diving at work. 
  • Undergoes medical screening by completing an appropriate medical screening form provided by Jovellanos Center. 
  • On the date on which the learner is to undertake shallow water CA-EBS training, they will be asked to sign a statement that to the best of their knowledge they have no medical condition (current or past) that would make them unfit to participate in the training.

The FOET (with CA-EBS) is open to persons who have a valid (in-date) OPITO-approved BOSIET (with CAEBS), BOSIET(with EBS), TBOSIET, FOET (with CA-EBS), FOET(with EBS) or TFOET certificate 

Goals

Demonstrate, in a simulated environment, that the trainees will be able to: 

  • Use the safety equipment and follow procedures in preparing for and during helicopter emergencies – with particular focus on escaping from a helicopter following ditching. 
  • Demonstrate that they can use basic firefighting equipment effectively, and use self-rescue techniques in low visibility and completely obscured visibility situations e.g. smoke-filled areas. 
  • Demonstrate that they can perform basic first aid. 
Methodology

The delivery of the course includes a theoretical presentation, demonstrations by the instructors and practical exercises developed by the learners with a view to achieving the learning outcomes.

Review

In order to obtain the certificate, the learner must fulfil the attendance requirements (100 %), take an active part and complete all the practicals set out in the programme. Participants will be assessed during the course according to the assessment guide for each unit to ensure the learning outcomes.
