On 4 and 5 November, the course “Legal Responsibilities and Cost Recovery in the Handling of Major Maritime Emergencies” was held at the Jovellanos Centre in Gijón, organised jointly by the Jovellanos Centre and the International Group of Protection and Indemnity (P&I) Clubs.
On the first day, a simulation of a major maritime emergency was conducted with the participation of specialists in coordination and operational response from the Directorate-General for the Merchant Marine (DGMM) and Maritime Rescue (Salvamento Marítimo). The session took place in the Centre’s emergency management simulator.
On the second day, participants conducted an evaluation and analysis of the emergency addressed in the previous day’s exercise. Key issues were reviewed with representatives from the Merchant Marine and Sasemar, the International Group of P&I Clubs, ITOPF, and the law firm Albors Galiano Portales.
