The Jovellanos Centre, the training centre of the Maritime Rescue Agency, has been a benchmark in emergency training since 1993.
In the interview, Mr Camus discusses the centre’s activities and features. Technology plays a major role, and investment is ongoing: €6 million was invested last year. The centre has innovative simulators and a wave pool that is unique in Spain. Measuring 40 metres wide and 80 metres long, it can even accommodate boats and rafts. This is just one example of everything they do, explains Camus.
Since 1993, it has been impossible to calculate how many emergency scenarios they have simulated. Julian believes the number runs into millions, given that they run more than 500 courses each year, with several critical situations recreated in each one. The centre welcomes around 4,000 people every year.
