On 13 September, the short film Tiempo Prestado (Borrowed Time), directed by Andalusian filmmaker Paco Ortíz, was screened at the tenth edition of the Santander Film Festival. The film was introduced to the audience at the Botín Centre by Julián Camus, the director of our Jovellanos Training Centre.

This documentary tells the story of José Antonio “Neno”, a crewmember aboard one of our rescue vessels, the Salvamar Vela, based in Mazagón. Camus highlighted the fact that our colleague is a survivor of the sinking of the Peix de Mar Siete, an event that transformed his life and led him to dedicate himself to saving lives at sea aboard the Salvamar.

The filmmaker, who specialises in documentary films, has captured the story of his childhood friend “Neno”, portraying a second chance in life that has been turned into a public service for seafarers, inspired by a maritime tragedy that has left a deep mark on Huelva’s collective maritime history.

The film was selected for the festival’s “Green Screen” section, dedicated to works that promote environmental values and explore the relationship between humans and nature.
