Project "101192397 — SMarAI" Co-funded by European Union Civil Protection
Spanish Maritime Risk Disaster Tool Management. AI advanced data analysis. SMART MARITIME AI

The SMarAI (SMART MARITIME AI) project aims to improve maritime safety in the event of disasters at sea by using an advanced data analysis platform based on artificial intelligence (AI). This tool will enhance decision-making in managing emergencies by identifying risks more effectively.

Promoted by SASEMAR, this project has the support of CEDEX as an affiliated entity, and AEMET and Puertos del Estado (State Ports) as collaborating organisations. The project is co-funded by the European Union through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism under the UCPM-2024-TRACK1 programme.

In a context where maritime risks cross borders, the increase in traffic on trade routes and the dangers posed by phenomena such as oil spills, marine pollution, and mass discharges demand a rapid and efficient response capability. Through the use of Artificial Intelligence, SMarAI aims to integrate large volumes of data and provide relevant authorities with a tool to enhance prevention, preparedness, and response to maritime emergencies.

SMarAI Project Goals
1.    Data integration and advanced analytics: Create a robust database that collects and analyses information from a variety of relevant sources.
2.    Risk analysis methodology: Establish a methodological framework to identify and analyse risks through AI.
3.    AI operational platform: Develop an integrated platform for real-time risk visualisation and analysis that facilitates decision-making.
4.    Cross-border cooperation: Promote the replication of the platform in other EU Member States and third countries.

The project seeks to enhance prevention, preparedness, and response to maritime emergencies, optimising resource allocation and refining decision-making. Furthermore, it clearly aligns with the EU's strategic objectives regarding safety and disaster resilience. The EU has emphasised the importance of enhancing disaster preparedness and response capabilities. SMarAI will not only add value to SASEMAR and Spain, but it will also become a replicable tool on an international level, contributing to enhanced security and resilience in the maritime environment and strengthening cooperation between authorities facing similar challenges.
